At least 10 people went missing after a ferry capsized in the Dhaleshwari River off the coast of Nara-yanganj’s Sadar upazila following a collision with another vessel on Wednesday, officials said.
Rashed Bin Khaled, duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense control room, said the ferry with 60-70 passengers on board sank in the river after being hit by the Dhaka-bound vessel near the Dharma-ganj ghat around 9am.
While many passengers managed to swim ashore, “at least 10 people are missing”, he said. “Five divers from the local fire service are conducting rescue operations.”
