Mohammad Abdul Matin: International Women’s Day is observed on March 8 every year with the aim of building a world-based society and society based on the protection of women’s rights. The theme of the UN Women’s Day 2022 is ‘Women’s Health and Awakening’. In light of this theme, the Women’s Council Australia has celebrated the day with various events.



The Women’s Council Australia hosted International Women’s Day at the Himalaya Emporium in Sydney’s Banks Town on the evening of March 8 (Tuesday) local time. Hundreds of expatriates and senior Australian government officials attended the event, despite the storm. The venue was packed to the brim with expatriate women dressed in purple and men in suit coats. Mohammad Zaman Tito, president of the Lakemba branch of the Australian Liberal Party and former Councillor, was in overall charge of the Women’s Day celebrations.




A new generation of young star, Shayaan Yasar Zaman’s Quran was recited and the International Women’s Day celebrations got off to a good start. After the national anthems of Australia and Bangladesh in the main part of the program, the President of Women Council Australia, Councilor Sajeda Akter Sanjida and General Secretary Tisha Tania gave welcome speeches. Speakers this evening included Phil Dutti, Australia’s Local Aboriginal Representative, Consulate General Khandaker Masudul Alam, Hon. Mark Coure MP (Member for Oatley and Minister for Multiculturalism and Seniors.), Hon.Tony Burke MP (Member for Watson, Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations and arts, Manager of Opposition Business ), Mrs Wendy Lindsay MP (State Member for East Hill), Khal Asfor (Mayor, Bankstown-Canterbury City Council), Dr. Ayaz Chowdhury (President, United Bangladeshi Association of Austria) and Jahangir Alam (Founder and CEO, Teleos).



Hima Joardar was presenter of the occasion. The first part of the program sublime performance included a pleasant cultural evening with poetry recitations, dance performances and music. Expatriates from all walks of life including journalists, intellectuals, leaders of various social, cultural, political organizations, mainstream Australian political leaders, federal MPs, state MPs, councilors, businessmen, artists and artisans participated in the World Women’s Day celebrations. The newly elected Bangladeshi Australian Councilors were greeted with flowers on the occasion. Teleios has fully supported the Women’s Council Australia event. The end of the program was announced with a full course dinner of the night.
